Participant funding for the Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Power Generating Sites: 2022 and the mid-term update on the Pickering Nuclear Power Generating Station

This participant funding opportunity is open from May 2 to June 3, 2023.

Participant funding notice

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public and stakeholders in reviewing and in submitting comments in writing to the Commission on either or both of the following: CNSC staff’s Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Power Generating Sites: 2022 (the ROR) and Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG’s) mid-term update on the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station (NGS). Intervenors may ask to make an oral presentation to the Commission. The nuclear power generating sites covered by the report are located in the traditional and treaty territories of many Indigenous Nations and communities.

On December 13 or 14, 2023, the CNSC will hold a public meeting where CNSC staff will present the ROR to the Commission. The ROR will provide CNSC staff’s assessment of the safety performance of Canadian nuclear power generating sites, consisting of nuclear power plants and associated waste management facilities, during the 2022 calendar year. The ROR will also contain an appendix pertaining to OPG’s comprehensive mid-term update on the Pickering NGS, requested by the Commission at the 2018 relicensing hearing.

Up to $50,000 in participant funding will be disbursed among all eligible applicants for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. Participant funding applications must clearly demonstrate how the proposed intervention will provide the Commission with information directly related to the ROR, to licensee safety performance at CNSC-licensed nuclear power generating sites in 2022, and/or to the Pickering NGS mid-term update.

To apply, please submit a participant funding application form. Certain terms and conditions apply. An application form can be submitted by:
