Participant funding for the Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Sites: 2023

This participant funding opportunity is open from March 4 to April 19, 2024.

Participant funding notice

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public and interested parties in reviewing CNSC staff’s Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Sites: 2023 and in submitting comments in writing to the Commission. In addition, in the spirit of reconciliation and in recognition of the Indigenous oral tradition of sharing knowledge, Indigenous intervenors may make oral presentations if interested. The facilities and activities covered by the regulatory oversight report (ROR) are located in the traditional and treaty territories of many Indigenous Nations and communities.

On November 6 or 7, 2024, the CNSC will hold a public meeting at which CNSC staff will present the ROR to the Commission. The ROR provides an overview of the CNSC’s regulatory efforts related to licensed Canadian Nuclear Laboratories sites in 2023, including:

  • Chalk River Laboratories
  • Douglas Point Waste Facility
  • Gentilly-1 Waste Facility
  • Nuclear Power Demonstration Waste Facility
  • Port Hope Area Initiative, consisting of the Port Hope and Port Granby projects
  • Whiteshell Laboratories

Up to $75,000 in participant funding will be disbursed among all eligible applicants for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. Participant funding applications must clearly demonstrate how the proposed intervention will stay within the scope of the Commission meeting and provide information on topics specifically related to the facilities and sites covered within the ROR. Such topics could include engagement activities with CNSC staff and licensees.
