Performance Report of CNL’s Nuclear Sites and Projects

The CNSC produced a report on the performance of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) nuclear sites and projects. The report summarizes the safety performance of Chalk River Laboratories, Whiteshell Laboratories, and the Port Hope Area Initiative, including the Port Hope and Port Granby projects.

Based on desktop reviews, performance analyses and site compliance inspection activities, CNSC staff have concluded that CNL’s sites and projects operated safely during 2013. This conclusion is based on the following:

  • No member of the public received a radiation dose that exceeded the regulatory limit
  • No worker at any CNL site received a radiation dose that exceeded the regulatory limits
  • The frequency and severity of non-radiological injuries to workers were minimal
  • No radiological releases to the environment from the sites/projects exceeded the licence limits
  • CNL complied with its licence conditions on Canada’s international obligations
