Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission
Symbol of the Government of Canada

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has been designated as the federal agency responsible for implementing the agreements between the Government of Canada and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the application of safeguards pursuant to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

In the context of these agreements, this means that CNSC’s Safeguards Program fills the role of Canada’s State System of Accounting for and Control of nuclear material (SSAC), which has been established to ensure that Canada fulfils its international obligations to use nuclear energy solely for peaceful purposes. To this end, the CNSC liaises with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and regulates the Canadian nuclear industry.

CNSC`s Safeguards Program Annual Report highlights the results of the activities undertaken by the CNSC’s Safeguards Program over fiscal year (April 1 to March 31).
