Ensure that the export and import provisions and licensing requirements are compatible with developments in international agreements and guidance.
Status: Pre-publication of draft regulations in the Canada Gazette Part I, Q4 fiscal year 2008-09 Target: Publication of approved regulations in the Canada Gazette Part II, Q4 2009-10 Carried over to 2010-11: Regulation was published in Q1 2010-11.
Class II Nuclear Facilities and Prescribed Equipment Regulations
To provide for the certification and decertification of Radiation Safety Officers.
Status: Pre-publication of draft regulations in the Canada Gazette Part I, Q4 fiscal year 2008-09 Target: Publication of approved regulations in the Canada Gazette Part II, Q4 fiscal year 2009-10 Carried over to 2010-11: Regulation was published in Q1 2010-11.
Packaging and Transport of Nuclear Substances Regulations
Update regulations to align with current IAEA recommendations.

Radiation Protection Regulations
Address emerging technology/usage and update international standards.
Target: Review completed Q2 fiscal year 2009-10 A review of the regulations is still under way with an expected completion date of the review of Q2 2011-12
Nuclear Substances and Radiation Devices Regulations
Adopt the latest exemption values in IAEA Basic Safety Standards.
Target: Review completed Q1 fiscal year 2009-10 Initiative cancelled during fiscal year 2009-10
Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission Cost Recovery Fees Regulations
Review and identify opportunities to modernize and streamline regulations
Target: Review completed Q2 fiscal year 2009-10 Review has been completed and it has been determined that no changes are required.
Nuclear Safeguards Regulations (proposed)
Develop safeguards regulations in lieu of existing generic safeguards
Target: Drafting instructions Q3 fiscal year 2009-10 licence conditions. A discussion paper has been completed and it has identified that separate Regulations are not required. It is recommending that the General Regulations be amended. Next step is the presentation of a policy CMD to the Commission. It is expected that this will be accomplished by end of Q3 2010-11 with the next step being the start of the actual Regulation making process.
Nuclear Criticality Regulations
Requirements developed into regulations on the storage of nuclear material.
Target: Drafting instructions Q2 fiscal year 2009-10 It has been determined that Regulations are not required. The necessary requirements will be incorporated into RD – 327 (Nuclear Criticality Safety) and guidance in GD – 327 (Guidance for Nuclear Criticality Safety). It is anticipated that both will be published by the end of Q4 2010-11.
Regulation of Tritium Uses and Releases
White Paper to determine the need.
Target: Paper completed Q4 2009-10 Study has been completed and was presented to the Commission in June 2010. Awaiting direction from the Commission on next steps.
Pressure Boundary Regulations
White Paper to determine the need.
Target: Paper completed Q4 2009-10 It has been determined that Regulations are not required. The necessary requirements will be incorporated into RD – 335 (Pressure Boundary Components). It is anticipated that this document will be published in Q2 2011-12.
Fire Protection Regulations
White Paper to determine the need.
Target: Paper completed Q4 2009-10 It has been determined that Regulations are not required. The necessary requirements will be incorporated into RD – 311 (Fire Protection at Nuclear Facilities and Uranium Mines and Mills). It is anticipated that this document will be published in Q1 2012-13
