The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has received requests to extend the comment period for Discussion Papers DIS-12-01, Protection of Groundwater at Nuclear Facilities in Canada and DIS-12-02, Process for Establishing Release Limits and Action Levels at Nuclear Facilities. Stakeholders have requested an additional 60 days to comment, to allow more time to fully understand and assess the CNSC’s proposals for strengthening the regulatory framework for environmental protection set out in these two papers.

Discussion papers are published by the CNSC to solicit feedback on regulatory issues and proposals. It is important that stakeholders have adequate time to analyze the CNSC’s proposals, and assess the impact, if any, on their operations. The CNSC has therefore decided to extend the consultation period for both Discussion Papers by 60 days.
