Subject: Publication of RD/GD-120 Licence Application Guide – Radiotherapy

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has published RD/GD-120 Licence Application Guide – Radiotherapy and its related form.

RD/GD-120 provides information to current and prospective licensees on how to complete and submit an application for a licence for the construction, operation or decommission of medical radiotherapy facilities classified as Class II nuclear facilities in accordance with the Nuclear Safety and Control Act (NSCA, the Act) and the regulations made under the NSCA. It replaces C-120: Radiation Therapy Licence Application Form and Guide.

The CNSC reviews these applications to ensure that a current or prospective applicant is qualified, has made adequate provision for the protection of the environment and the health and safety of persons, and otherwise meets the requirements of the provisions of the NSCA and the regulations before issuing a licence for the specified activity.

While the guide and application form have been in use for many years, the CNSC is updating and finalizing the documents to reflect current requirements and practices.
