Bruce A Unit 2 returned to guaranteed shutdown state

At approximately 7:10 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012, the CNSC was informed of a moderator leak on Bruce A Unit 2 as it was being re-started following refurbishment. Bruce Power staff took the appropriate action and returned the unit to the shut down state while they investigated the cause. The leak was determined to be inside confinement and has been isolated. There was no release to the environment and no plant worker received any dose. The unit will remain shut down while the leak is investigated further and steps are taken to prevent recurrence. The other units in the Bruce A station were not affected.
CNSC on-site staff were in the Main Control Room as planned at the time of the event, for the approach to critical. CNSC staff continues to monitor the situation.
