CNSC Signs Protocol with New Brunswick Power for Point Lepreau Return to Service

On August 10, 2011, the CNSC and New Brunswick Power Nuclear (NBPN) signed a protocol specifying the key activities to be undertaken by NBPN to demonstrate the acceptability of the Point Lepreau generating Station’s fire protection program and to achieve a “Satisfactory” rating for the Emergency Management and Fire Protection Safety and Control Area .

A “Satisfactory” rating for Emergency Management and Fire Protection Safety and Control Area is a prerequisite for the return to service of the reactor after refurbishment. The protocol highlights the collaboration between NBPN and the CNSC’s senior management, and sets out the framework within which both organizations will work toward Point Lepreau’s return to service.
