Under the Nuclear Safety and Control Act and associated regulations, various levels of regulatory action can be taken by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) to protect the health, safety and security of Canadians and the environment.
On January 5, 2012, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) announced that a request had been issued under subsection 12(2) of the General Nuclear Safety and Control Regulations to Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region, a health care provider with two central hospitals located in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region is requested to conduct an analysis of the adequacy of the implementation of its radiation safety program, to modify any applicable internal procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, to perform inspections of all locations of licensed activity, and to provide a plan of corrective actions for the non-compliances identified during the CNSC inspection conducted at the two hospitals on December 7 and 8, 2011.
