Order to Global Engineering & Testing Ltd

On September 26, 2011, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) announced that it issued an order to Global Engineering & Testing Ltd.

Global Engineering & Testing Ltd is a company based in Calgary, Alberta, that provides geotechnical, environmental and materials testing services. The company holds a CNSC licence to possess portable nuclear gauges used to measure the density and moisture content of compacted material.

The order was issued following a CNSC inspection on September 22, 2011. The inspection revealed that the company’s staff has insufficient knowledge and training to carry out their licensed activity safely.  The order requires the company to keep all nuclear gauges in storage until employees have received appropriate training, and all items of non-compliance identified during the inspection have been addressed to the satisfaction of the CNSC.

The current placement of the portable nuclear gauges in storage does not pose any immediate risk to the health and safety of workers, the public, or the environment.
