Document history

  • November 2010: CNSC has created a fillable PDF form for GD-52. Using this format, stakeholders can save the data typed into the form and send the completed form as an email attachment.

  • December 2009: Converted to GD-52. This document was posted for public consultation as RD-52, but was converted to guidance document GD-52 in accordance with the December 2009 updates to CNSC’s regulatory framework. Read the Regulatory Framework fact sheet for more information.
  • July 2009: View comments received during the second consultation.
  • February to March 2009: Second consultation. Invitation to provide feedback on the comments received during the first consultation period was issued on the CNSC Web site for a 30-day period.   • November 2008 to January 2009: First consultation. Invitation to comment on the draft document was posted on the CNSC Web site for a 60-day period.

Document description

GD-52 provides guidance for a recommended approach for meeting the requirements related to site description and room design under paragraphs 3(1)(d) and 3(1)(l) of the Nuclear Substances and Radiation Devices Regulations and performing shielding design analyses as a component of keeping doses As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) pursuant to subparagraph 4(a)(iii) of the Radiation Protection Regulations.
