Blind River Refinery licence renewal webinar

As a result of the recent election call and dissolution of Parliament, the federal government has now entered the caretaker period. In keeping with the caretaker guidelines, the CNSC will postpone this previously announced webinar until October 6, 2021.

Updated Date: Join the CNSC on October 6, 2021, for a second webinar on Cameco’s Blind River Refinery (BRR).

This webinar will provide information about Cameco’s application to renew its Class IB nuclear fuel facility operating licence for the Blind River Refinery in Blind River, Ontario, for a 10-year period. CNSC staff are currently reviewing the BRR licence renewal application. This webinar will be subdivided into multiple sections that address specific safety and control areas.

Cameco currently has a 10-year Class IB operating licence that expires on February 28, 2022. The licence renewal application does not involve any adjustments to authorized activities or production rates. CNSC staff have conducted compliance verification activities at the BRR facility and have concluded that the potential risks are low to negligible.

The purpose of this webinar is to:

  • provide information on the BRR licence renewal application
  • provide information on specific safety and control areas
  • explain how the public, Indigenous groups and potential intervenors can participate in the upcoming hearing on November 24 and 25, 2021
